Parish Profile

The Immaculate Conception Cathedral Parish is located in beautiful Grand Falls-Windsor in Central Newfoundland.  Our town is a mill town located next to the Exploits River.  Grand Falls-Windsor has a population of about 19 000 people and two Roman Catholic Parishes – The Immaculate Conception Cathedral Parish and St. Joseph’s Parish.  Our Parish has about 3 000 parishioners and a number of committees and organizations to be involved with.  Some of these include our Parish Pastoral Council, Finance Committee, Liturgy Committee, Community Life Committee, St. Gerard’s Guild, Catholic Women’s League, and the Knights of Columbus.  Also, a number of our parishioners participate in our church Ministries by leading Children’s Liturgy and Music, and by being Altar Servers, Gift Bearers, Readers, and Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist.

The Cathedral was built in 1965 and over the years, the Immaculate Conception Cathedral Parish has been host to many foreign priests as they adjust to Canadian Culture.  Father David Joy has been our Parish Priest since 2003.  Every summer we have a Parish Picnic in the courtyard behind the church, and this year it was held on August 6.  We had an excellent turnout this year and the weather was great.  This was a wonderful opportunity to get to know some of the people that attend our church.  Also, Father Joy recently hosted a session of Theology on Tap, where guest speaker Father Brian Dunn spoke very informatively to young adults aged 19-39 on the topic of Ecumenism.

This brief profile has been created for our Parish by three Post-Secondary Students.  We were hired for the summer to work on a Parish Census and also to help create a website for our Parish.  Our census has been quite successful, and our website is now online at www.immaculateconceptioncathedralparish.ca.  We invite you to visit our site and contact the office at any time with any comments or suggestions.

Thank you for taking the time to view our profile! J
